Cornel A. WilliamCornel A. Williams was the fifth of six children born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to James and Ruth Williams.

He attended Frank H. Trotter Elementary School from the first to the sixth grade.  Cornel was a member of the founding class of Lookout Mountain Christian School where he attended for two years before transferring to Alton Park Junior High School for his ninth grade year.  Cornel entered Howard High School in 1973 as a sophomore.  He excelled at basketball, baseball and track where he earned a total of nine letters during his high school stay.  He was a member of the National Honor Society and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Cornel finished fifth in his 1976 graduating class and accepted an academic scholarship to attend the University of Michigan.

While at Michigan, he walked on to the Michigan basketball team and played for two years before a knee injury ended his collegiate career.  Cornel went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Michigan in 1980.  He then came home to Chattanooga to work at Tennessee Valley Authority for fifteen months before enrolling in Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in 1981.  Upon graduating from law school, Cornel immediately began to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a criminal defense attorney when he went directly into the private practice of law in May 1983.  During his outstanding 24 year career as a criminal defense attorney, Cornel has had the opportunity to represent several persons including prominent doctors, lawyers and professional athletes.  He has been married for 21 years to Phyllis Knight-Williams and enjoys traveling, golf and music.
